I am glad that the global media is focusing on issues in Myanmar. But I am also saddened by the fact that the focus is limited to the Rohingyas. If there’s one thing the Myanmar military is not, is that it is not racist. It is an equal opportunity organization that doesn’t discriminate oppression based on race.
The oppression suffered by the Rohingyas, such as burning of villages, rape and murder are standard modus operandi of the Myanmar military. They have burned villages all over the country which many ethnic groups have called home. They have raped individuals of many ethnic groups all over the country. They have murdered tens of thousands of individuals of many ethnic groups all over the country. And I am certain, there are mass graves all over the country containing remains of all the ethnic groups that represent Myanmar.
I think it’s time for the world to hold the Myanmar military accountable for what they really are: murderers, rapists and thieves. We need to hold them accountable for all the mass killings that they have committed against all people since 1948. We need to hold them accountable for acts of rapes against all women in Myanmar since 1948. And we need to hold them accountable, recover and return all valuables they stole from the people and the country since 1948.
